My baby sister isn’t a baby anymore! Last month, she turned 21, and I was so sad I couldn’t be there to celebrate with her. She’s busy living a fabulous aspiring Country star life in Nashville.

Since I couldn’t be with her to celebrate in person, I was planning to send her something from Stella&Dot that she’s had her eye on. I was loitering in the Target Dollar Spot, as I like to do, when I laid my eye on these little babies.

And I was like, “How fun! I’ll send her one of these too, to celebrate.”

And then I saw some fun AIY (Assemble It Yourself – it’s like DIY for people who don’t actually want to do it themselves) paper party decorations.

And then I saw a tiny box of balloons.

And then I had one of those genius ideas that strikes every so often in the Target Dollar Spot. I love throwing parties – and I could send my sister everything she needed for a birthday party in the mail. Confetti Emoji!

So then I went on a mad tear through the Dollar Spot to see what other pint-sized party throwing goodies I could find. I grabbed some fun paper straws in Duck’s favorite color. Also a pink glow stick, because why not?IMG_0260

From the party supply aisle I grabbed some inexpensive glittery pink plates, and the cutest “Happy Birthday” candles. I found the party napkins at Homegoods and couldn’t resist. A perfect little nod to her Valentine-adjacent birthdate.

Who wouldn’t be thrilled to get this in the mail on their birthday? And it’s the perfect thing for a dorm room-sized birthday party.

Because this was for a 21st birthday party, I thought a sampling of tiny bottles of booze would be ta great addition, but mailing alcohol though the United States Postal Service is a crime, so of course I definitely did not do that. Never. Obvi.

I thought the Birthday Party in a Box idea might need a little explanation upon arrival, so I decided to add a little finishing touch in the form of a note. To add a little but more fun, I made it a set of instructions.

I think sending some cake mix would’ve been a really cute addition, but I’m cheap and it would cost more to ship it than to buy it, so I decided against it. After I mailed it I also thought sending some party hats and paper photo booth props or a “Happy Birthday” banner would’ve been fun too. I will definitely try this idea again in the future, and I’d love to get other ideas for easy and inexpensive additions. What do you think would be a fun surprise to add? Let me know in the comments!
